Grayling High School Girls Varsity Golf finishes in 8th place at MHSAA Regionals
Thursday, October 12, 2017
The Grayling Girls Golf team wrapped up their season at the MHSAA Regionals held at Harbor Point Golf Club on Thursday, October 5. The team had to battle some very strong winds, temperatures in the low 40s, and some lightning fast greens. Overall the girls in finished in 8th place out of nine teams with a team score of 480.
Destiny Schans fired a team leading round of 104 just missing out on a chance to qualify for states by just 3 strokes. Valentina Bee shot a career best 110, Anna Fischer shot a 115, Aaliyah Essmaker shot a 141 and Chantel Maczorowski shot a 145.
Coach Johnston said after the match that, “I have really enjoyed coaching and working with all seven of my girls. We began the season with four returning golfers and two brand new golfers. When the school year started, we picked up Valentina Bee, a foreign exchange student, who never golfed. As the weeks, progressed, Valentina began playing in all the matches because she really understood the game of golf and her swing continued to improve. Each girl brought something to the team whether it was leadership, laughter, competition or the love of the game.”
The Girls Golf team will be in rebuilding mode next year as they have four of their top golfers leaving the team (3 seniors and one foreign exchange student).
