Vikings News · MHSAA Fall Sports Updates (Updated 9/3/20)


Update (9/3/20) – Per the MHSAA Fall Update that was sent out to MHSAA member schools on Thursday, September 3rd competition may begin for all fall sports in all regions of the state. Boys Soccer may begin competition immediately while Girls Swim & Dive and Volleyball cannot begin in regions 1-5 and 7 until Wednesday, September 9th. Football has also been reinstated for the fall and practices can begin on Tuesday, September 7th. All of this comes from Executive Order 176 and the MHSAA will continue to provide updates and modifications based on the most current information.

Update (8/20/20) – Per the MHSAA Fall Update that was sent out to MHSAA member schools on Thursday, August 20…Football is still being planned for the spring of 2021 but Boys Tennis, Cross Country and Girls Golf may continue to compete in all regions and competition in boys soccer, girls swim & dive and volleyball in Regions 6 and 8 may begin as scheduled on August 21. In Regions 1-5 and 7, practice may continue outdoors but teams cannot compete in boys soccer, girls swim & dive and volleyball until the issuance of future executive orders give the go ahead to open school facilities and allow for competition to begin.

Original Post (8/14/20) – The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) made the difficult decision to postpone Football until the spring of 2021. Please read part of the statement from the MHSAA below in regards to canceling Football….

Earlier today, the MHSAA Representative Council made the difficult decision to postpone football until the spring of 2021. This decision was based on feedback and input from the Governor’s office, state health department officials, member schools, collegiate conferences and individuals on both sides of the issue. Plans will be shared soon regarding allowed fall coach-player workouts as well as concepts for the spring football season dates, format and playoffs.
