The Grayling Varsity Football team beat Gladwin 44-14 to move to 2-0 on the season.
The Vikings marched down the field on their opening drive scoring on a six yard touchdown by Zack Osga. After a few back and forth possessions where no one seemed to gain any ground Zack Osga scored on a 14 yard pass from Justin Nicholas which was set up by an interception by Rickey Heavner. On their fifth possession of the game the Vikings would once again find the endzone on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Justin Nicholas to Nick Hunter. After a recovered onside kick the Vikings scored on just three plays with Justin Nicholas completing a 16 yard touchdown pass to Logan Joseph to put the Vikings up 28-0 going into the half. After the half, Gladwin quickly drove down the field to score their first touchdown of the game. A blocked punt by Logan Joseph on Gladwinâs next possession would give the Vikings a short field which they would quickly capitalize on. Justin Nicholas scrambled 3 yards for a Viking touchdown on just the second play of the drive to put them up 36-6. After a turnover on downs by Gladwin, Grayling scored again this time on another short rushing touchdown by Zack Osga. Gladwin would tack on a score late in the game to make the final score 44-14.
On offense, both Justin Nicholas and Zack Osga had huge games for the Vikings. Justin would finish the game with 191 yards passing and three touchdowns as well as 128 yards rushing and another touchdown. Zack had 132 yards rushing and two touchdowns and added seven catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. Logan Joseph had 92 yards rushing and a receiving touchdown and Nick Hunter had 51 yards receiving and a touchdown as well.
On the defensive side of the ball Jacob Macfalda was a force to be reckon with racking up 13 tackles and 3 sacks. Tyler Withers had 6 tackles and a sack, Justin Youngblood had 6 tackles and an interception and Parker Dole and Rick Heavener combined for 8 tackles, a sack and an interception.
The Varsity Football team kicks off conference play at Kingsley next Friday September 8th.
