The Grayling Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Benzie Central for a non-conference match on Tuesday, September 12. The team battled back from a first game loss (10-25), winning the next two games (25-22, 25-19) then losing the next two games (14-25, 9-15), to lose the match 3-2.

The Volleyball team travels to Charlevoix on Thursday, September 14. The game starts at 7:00pm.

Game Recap

The Grayling JV Volleyball team traveled to Benzie Central High School on Tuesday, September 12. The Lady Vikes lost the first game 22-25 but rallied to win the next two games 25-16 and 15-9.

Five girls served 100% on the night including Hannah Childers, Haley Hayes, Jasmine Denton, Jordyn Schwartz, and Jocelyn Brown. Emma Mertes lead the team from line with 6 aces, Jasmine Denton contributed with 3 aces and Hannah Childers, Jocelyn Brown and Kyah Birdsall each had 2 aces.

The JV Volleyball team travels to Charlevoix on Thursday, September 14. The game starts at 5:30pm.

Game Recap

The Grayling Varsity Football team kicked off conference play with a bang beating Kingsley 48-22 on Friday, September 8.

On just their second possession of the game the Vikings marched 60 yards down the field and scored on a short two yard run by Justin Nicholas. After a few back and forth possessions the Vikings would score again on a five yard touchdown run by Justin Nicholas. That drive was set up by an interception by Logan Joseph. The Vikings would punch it in again on another five yard run by Justin Nicholas just as the clock expired in the first half. The Vikings went into halftime with a 22-0 lead. An interception by Logan Joseph on Kingsley’s first possession of the half would set up another Viking touchdown. This time the Vikings would score on a short one yard run by Jacob Mcfalda to put them up 28-0. Kingsley would finally get on the board on their next possession scoring on a long 33 yard run. The Vikings would quickly answer that score with one of their own coming on a 35 yard touchdown pass from Justin Nicholas to Rickey Heavner. Kingsley would fumble on their next possession which led to another Viking touchdown. This one came on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Justin Nicholas to Nick Hunter to put the Vikings up 42-7 going into the fourth quarter. Kingsley would open up the fourth quarter with a touchdown scoring on a 14 yard touchdown run to trail the Vikings 42-15 with just over ten minutes to play. On their ensuing possession the Vikings would score on a four yard rush by Justin Nicholas giving him four rushing touchdowns in the game. Kingsley would tack on a late score before the end of the game to put the final score as Grayling 48, Kingsley 22.

On offense, Justin Nicholas had another huge game counting for six of the seven Viking touchdowns. He would finish the game with 304 yards passing and two touchdowns to go along with 67 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Nick Hunter caught nine passes for 132 yards and a touchdown and Rickey Heavner had a long touchdown reception in the game. On defense, Logan Joseph had 16 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. Justin Youngblood had 15 tackles and one interception. Jordan Gauthier had 13 tackles, Eli Jackson had eight tackles and one fumble recovery, Jacob Macfalda had eight tackles and Rickey Heavner had seven tackles.

The Varsity football teams moves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 conference. They host Cheboygan at 7:00pm on Friday, September 15.

The Grayling Junior Varsity Football team had their comeback effort fall just short in a 38-32 loss to Kingsley. The first half was one to forget for the Vikings as they trailed 32-14 at halftime. However, the Vikings kicked it in gear the second half scoring 18 points and holding Kingsley to just 6 points.

On offense Max Halstead once again had a huge game rushing for 218 yards on 17 carries and scoring two touchdowns. He also had two receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Ventline had 196 yards passing and three touchdowns and Bradley Trosper had a long touchdown reception. On defense, Bradley Trosper had 6 tackles, Max Halstead had 5 tackles and Logan Trumble had 4 tackles.

The Vikings travel to Cheboygan High School next Thursday, September 14. The game starts at 6:00pm.

Game Recap

The Grayling Boys Soccer team traveled to Boyne City for a conference match on Thursday, September 7. It was a tight game throughout ending in a 3-3 tie. Scoring for the Vikings were Mason Manning and Anthony Harrington (two goals). The Boys Soccer team moves to 3-1-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in the conference.

The Boys Soccer team hosts TC Christian next Tuesday, September 12. The game starts at 5:00pm.

Game Recap

The Grayling Varsity Football team beat Gladwin 44-14 to move to 2-0 on the season.

The Vikings marched down the field on their opening drive scoring on a six yard touchdown by Zack Osga. After a few back and forth possessions where no one seemed to gain any ground Zack Osga scored on a 14 yard pass from Justin Nicholas which was set up by an interception by Rickey Heavner. On their fifth possession of the game the Vikings would once again find the endzone on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Justin Nicholas to Nick Hunter. After a recovered onside kick the Vikings scored on just three plays with Justin Nicholas completing a 16 yard touchdown pass to Logan Joseph to put the Vikings up 28-0 going into the half. After the half, Gladwin quickly drove down the field to score their first touchdown of the game. A blocked punt by Logan Joseph on Gladwin’s next possession would give the Vikings a short field which they would quickly capitalize on. Justin Nicholas scrambled 3 yards for a Viking touchdown on just the second play of the drive to put them up 36-6. After a turnover on downs by Gladwin, Grayling scored again this time on another short rushing touchdown by Zack Osga. Gladwin would tack on a score late in the game to make the final score 44-14.

On offense, both Justin Nicholas and Zack Osga had huge games for the Vikings. Justin would finish the game with 191 yards passing and three touchdowns as well as 128 yards rushing and another touchdown. Zack had 132 yards rushing and two touchdowns and added seven catches for 93 yards and a touchdown. Logan Joseph had 92 yards rushing and a receiving touchdown and Nick Hunter had 51 yards receiving and a touchdown as well.

On the defensive side of the ball Jacob Macfalda was a force to be reckon with racking up 13 tackles and 3 sacks. Tyler Withers had 6 tackles and a sack, Justin Youngblood had 6 tackles and an interception and Parker Dole and Rick Heavener combined for 8 tackles, a sack and an interception.

The Varsity Football team kicks off conference play at Kingsley next Friday September 8th.

Game Recap

The Grayling Boys Soccer team opened up conference play with a bang by beating Harbor Springs 7-2 on Thursday, August 31.

Gabriel Nano opened the game with a goal of an assist from Ben Robbins. He would go on to record another goal later in the game. Anthony Harrington and Mason Manning each had two goals on the game, and Eliot Boik had one goal.

The Boys Soccer team (3-1 overall, 1-0 LMC) will travel Boyne City Thursday, September 7th.

Game Recap

The Grayling JV Football team lost to Gladwin 58-24 on Wednesday, August 30. Turnovers plagued the Vikings as they turned the ball over six times in the game with five of them coming in the first half. The Vikings responded well by scoring 18 of their 24 points in the second half.

On offense, Max Halstead had 27 yards rushing on 9 carries and one touchdown, Keigan Garnett added a rushing touchdown and Ethan Dannenberg returned a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. On defense, Max Halstead led the way with 6.5 tackles and Ethan Dannenberg added 3.5 tackles.

The JV Football team hosts Kingsley next Thursday, September 7 at 6:00pm.

Game Recap

The Grayling Boys Soccer team beat Cheboygan 6-0 in a nonconference match on Tuesday August 29.

Ben Robbins scored the first goal of the night off a penalty kick. Gabriel Nano scored off an assist from Ben Robbins for the teams second goal. Mitchell Kuziel scored on a pass from Anthony Harrignton on a corner kick for the teams third goal of the game. Gabriel Nano scored again on an assist from Garrett Reilly to put the Vikings up 4-0. Anthony Harrington would later score on an assist from Louis Cotton and Ben Robbins scored again for the final goal of the game.

The Boys Soccer team (2-1) travel to Harbor Springs on Thursday August 31. The game starts at 5:00pm.
